Vic West Street Fest: Recap

On Sunday, June 7th, a celebration of the diversity of Vic West occurred at the first Vic West Street Fest along Harbour Road! We are thankful for a day that was full of community building, increased community awareness, family entertainment, and we cannot forget the sunshine which was present all day long!

The Vic West Street Fest was a project of the Resilient Neighbourhood Round Table, which is formed by a variety of Vic West stakeholders, including community organizations and businesses. Through monthly meetings, the need for an event that collectively celebrates and highlights the unique and vibrant community of Vic West, in conjunction with the annual Point Hope Shipyards tours, emerged and the idea for the Vic West Street Fest was born.

The day began with a welcome and blessings by both the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations, and continued on to include live music & entertainment, food trucks, Point Hope Maritime Shipyards & Dockside Green tours, children’s activities, and displays from over 30 Vic West-centric businesses and community organizations throughout the duration of the day!

Thank you to all who attended, volunteered, and performed at the Street Fest. The representation of the people within the community of Vic West was inspiring  – the event was a great success thanks to all of you! We hope you had as much fun as we did, and we look forward to seeing you at next year’s Vic West Street Fest!

I am populating our 2016 calendar with events and wonder if we might be part of the next Vic West Street Fest? Do you have a date for it? We imagine either being a part of the event as a vendor with bicycle demos or by planning a ride to the event, or both!
